MEMORIAL DAY CAMPING TRIP TO
KIAMCHI WILDERNESS
We spent Memorial Day weekend up at our property in Oklahoma. Took our new Pop-up and camped for the weekend. IT WAS BRUTALLY HOT!!! Setting up camp almost did us in, but the AC in the camper works like a champ. We also found a great spot on the bluff underneath a walnut tree that provided shade, and it had a refreshing breeze that helped cool things off.
Tony decided that was a good time to start shooting his 9mm pistol. Which was fine, but Stella, who took off like a rabbit, would not come out from underneath the pick up for almost 4 hours. Fun gun to shoot though.
It is so beautiful up there, it takes my breath away each time we visit. This trip we hiked to the other end of our property, which we had not seen before and found that it too ended in another bluff. The good news, there was water down there!!!! Now, how do we get to it?
So, we hike back, sit in the camper and cool off again. Then, we set out again, but this time, I wanted to go down the bluff at the front of our property, which was also supposed to have some river/creek down there. Never did find it that way, but we did find a huge cave on our land. We did not have a flash light or the gun, or we would have gone in, but without protection, didn't want to invade whatever was living in there. You could walk up-right for a ways and then had to bend over, but it went on forever.
Hike back, cool off and then we all get in the truck in search of the river we found earlier. As we were driving along, we pass the volunteer Fire Department and there are 4-wheelers everywhere, lots of people. I thought maybe they were having their annual Fund raiser...until I say the arch with the wedding bow. Yes, that's right, it was an official Hill Billy wedd'in. Most of the guests indeed, showed up on 4 wheelers in tank tops and shorts, complete with hip holster to hold their pistol. Yes, most everyone was packin. I laughed and giggled, but on we went in search of the water.
Finally found the greatest swimming hole and splashed around a bit. Dogs had fun, Jackson had fun and Mom wished she had brought a bottle of shampoo (remember, we have no running water at camp).
On the way back, I tried to get pictures of the wedd'in without being too obvious. It was hysterical.
It was a very fun trip and I can't wait to go back once it cools off some. Bad thing, we came back with ticks and chiggers. Dogs were fine, they were treated, but I got eaten alive by the Chiggers. I have already purchased some sulfur and it is now in the camper. Won't make that mistake again. And ticks are gross!!!! Jackson also did not want to be looked over for Ticks.
Me: Jackson, I need to check your business to make sure there aren't any bugs down there.
J: No, Mom, that's private business!!!!
(when he's exasperated with me, it's a long, drawn out - MMMOOOOOOMMMMM. The rest of the time, he calls me Momma and sounds just like Elvis)
